About the Author, Susanne Oliphant
At 47 years old, like many facing middle age, I wonder what surprises life will continue to spring on me. In doing so, it occurred to me that I enjoy sharing the absurd stories that life creates in the process.
As a single, working mother of two, I have experienced divorce, miscarriage, infertility, breast cancer, and a multitude of misfortunes over the years, but I have also been blessed with survival, fantastic friends and family, and the ability to actually enjoy the craziness life offers up.
This blog is meant to offer the readers just a little of that joy...getting a chuckle out of the absurd obstacles we must all occassionally tackle.
Born in Denver, Colorado to a dad making a name for himself as a political
cartoonist and a mother who made attending school an absolute artform, I am the
youngest of 3 kids. After my dad won the Pulitzer and received a prestigious
position at the now defunct Washington Star in the mid 70s, we made the move
from Denver to DC. It was when we arrived there that we found out Mummy and
Daddy were getting divorced. Not a shocker nowadays, but back then I was the
only 3rd grader with divorced parents, and I was perceived as damaged
goods...the kid from the broken home.
Four years later, with my brother and sister both out of the house, my mom and I moved to Alexandria, VA where she became one of the first women to receive her Masters in Theology. My mom's schooling did not stop there. She quickly taught me that she was a trail blazer in many ways...because 4 years after that we relocated from the East Coast to Santa Barbara, CA where my mother became a licensed marriage and family therapist and remains to this day, a prominent figure in the Santa Barbara community. I, seeking to follow my love of theatre, acting, and writing, opted to move to Los Angeles after graduating from high school to attend UCLA. My boy friend, 12 years my senior and also an actor, and I moved in together in a small LA apartment, and there began my journey into womanhood which I hope you will find as deligtfully ridiculous as I now do. I currently reside in Milwaukee, WI.
Yes, there were a few more moves in my life between UCLA and now. And there in lie many of my stories.
